Vintage: 2000
Type: Tieguanyin Oolong
Production region: Anxi, Fujian Province, China

Aged Drunken Imperial Concubine is the top-of-the-line charcoal-roasted Tieguanyin produced by Master Vesper Chan. This tea was carefully bottled, sealed, and aged in Hong Kong by Master Chan since 2000 (three years older than the previously available edition). According to Master Chan, aged oolong usually takes 3-5 years to begin improving its quality. This 25+ year old oolong is truly rare and is considered a treasure. What makes it more special is that Master Chan had taken a hiatus in aging oolong from 2003 to 2019. This bottle is the last one left from the early 2000s.

The flavors of aged roasted Tieguanyin are so much more intense and the finish is much longer than its younger counterpart. The aroma is penetrating from the moment you begin brewing the tea to inhaling the fragrance left in the empty cup when you finish sipping the tea. Aged teas (oolong and pu-erh) are often valued beyond the flavor of the tea. The body reaction and sensory experience from drinking aged teas take one to a different level of tea appreciation.

Oh, Man

By Chris Barron
This is a very high level example of the art form that is Tieguanyin.

The liquor is a beautiful amber color with a tiny hint of chartreuse in the early infusions. As soon as you rinse the leaves you get the oolong fragrance that reminds you that even if people are fallible, tea is perfect, and your ancestors and not really that far away, and the Universe is, in fact, a miracle.

The flavor is floral with a delicious buttered toast outline and a delicately sweet plummyness that edges forward with successive brewings.

Invigorating and calming, this tea is a luxurious companion for either relaxing or conquering your world.

Thank you for the beautiful review. I can't help to brew myself a cup as soon as I read it.

Essence of a Hong Kong sunset

By Andy
Honestly, this feels more like an experience than a beverage. I was last in Hong Kong in the '00s to visit some family, and we even went to Ocean Park. Don’t remember much of that day, but what I do remember after all these years is taking the outdoor escalator all the way up right around closing time. Standing at the summit, the way the sun hit the gentle mountains sloping down into the sea and how the warm air caressed you even at that height, well, that’s the closest that I can describe the familiarly joyful Cha Qi of this tea for me, especially in its remaining resteeps.
